Orchid - Catasetum Memoria Lum Hon (A collector item)
For catasetum orchids, it is normal to deliver the plant without leaves (only healthy bulbs), as the leaves are fragile and may turn yellow during transit. The healthy bulbs will produce new plants with green leaves later.
Catasetum is the largest genus of the subtribe and grows in a variety of conditions. Many grow in the warm, moist open canopy of trees, but a number are happiest in the "boot" of palm trees. The new growths rapidly develop in a five to six month period, bloom, loose their leaves and are dormant for periods from one to five months depending on the species and the climatic conditions of their habitat.
The photo shown above is our sample photo when the plant is blooming. The plant is grown by us at lowland in Malaysia. The flower is in a dark colour- black maroon. In the cooler environment, the colour of flowers can be black.
